YOUTH IN SOUTH AFRICA
In South Africa, out of 100 students that enter school at
grade 1:
❖ 40% make it to grade 12 (Teen pregnancy accounts for 33%
of dropout among female learners.)
❖ 28% pass high school
❖ 4% enter university
❖ 1-2% graduate
This is why South Africa’s unemployment rate for 15-34 year
old youths is one of the highest world wide with a staggering
41.9% being women in SA.
3.4 million youth between the ages of 15-24 are neither
employed or have received Education or Training. The
experience of most South African female youth is one of
poverty, and continuing vulnerability, inequality and
unemployment.
